Who is Lao-tzu?

I was working on the title for this blog and brainstorming with friends. Scrambled Meg? (Thanks, Phil.) Then I came across this quote by Lao-tzu:

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Admittedly, I erroneously attributed the quote to Confucius. It seems a common mistake based on a quick Google. However, upon further research also using Google, I found this Quotations Page site with details on the origins of my “single step.” Lao-tzu, I learned, is a Chinese philosopher (604-531 BC) who founded Taoism and authored the “Tao Te Ching.”

While single step is a play on my current relationship status, I also like the idea that I am embarking on a new journey. I have thought a lot about my life story and how it has taken turns I have liked, loved, dreaded, resisted, and just lived. The journey is also part of a hero monomyth. This is my new journey, hopefully filled with excitement, discovery, contentment, and perhaps, enlightenment.
